Ray Stolzenberg
Living Category – Inducted 1981

In 1933, a fresh 18-year old country kid named Ray Stolzenberg launched his band, The Northern Playboys, at a dance in LeRoy, Minnesota.  From small community dance halls they went on the road to playing in ballrooms from St. Paul to Cedar Rapids, from Kansas to Chicago for the next 18 years, going practically seven days a week.  Stolzenberg, a drummer, had about a thousand arrangements in his music library.  He was featured on radio KATE Austin, KAUS and KROC Rochester.  His band appeared regularly on a music program from the Mankato TV Station.

In 1967 when the band business declined, he opened a music store.

Back in the '40s the band cut eight 78 rpm records, followed by a number of 45’s and several LP albums.  Upon his retirement, he moved to Sun City, Arizona.  In 1980, all of his band members followed him, making their homes in the Phoenix area.  They have begun playing in the area and have stacked up booking engagements for a year in advance.

Obituary for Raymond Stolzenberg
Raymond Louis Stolzenberg, age 94, of Austin, died Thursday, March 11, 2010 at his home.
Ray was born April 3, 1915 to Nick and Anna (Kerling) Stolzenberg in Johnsburg, Minnesota.  At age six months, his parents moved to Austin.  Ray attended school at Pacelli, graduating in 1933 and soon thereafter he formed a road dance band known as the Northern Playboys.  Ray's band consisted of an eight piece band and he played the drums.  The Northern Playboys played in an eight state area.  They traveled from one city to another.
During World War II, Ray served as Private First Class in the Army at Honolulu, Hawaii.  In 1967 Ray quit playing in an eight state area to get married.  On June 20, 1967 he was united in marriage to Frances Benson of Red Wing, Minnesota.  Frances worked as the Director of Nurses at St. Olaf Hospital in Austin.  Next he opened a music store on West Oakland Avenue which was known as Ray Stolzenberg Enterprises.  During this time, Ray continued to play dances in an 100 mile radius.
Ray served as Secretary and Treasurer of the Local Musicians Union Local 766 American Federation of Musicians for 14 years.  In 1981, Ray was inducted into the International Polka Music Hall of Fame in Chicago, Illinois.
Ray and Frances loved cats.  In 2001 they were given national publicity by Jason Davis of Channel 5-KSTP TV Minneapolis-St. Paul.  Jason came to Austin to interview them and their six cats.  It was an unusual story about five kitties and their mother who lived next door to where Ray and Frances lived.  The story was presented on Channel 5 TV on July 31, 2001 and was syndicated on about 400 stations and several stories in many newspapers along with coverage in a national magazine called "The Polka News."
Survivors include many cousins and friends.
Ray is preceded in death by his wife, Frances on May 28, 2002; and his parents.

Carl E. Olivebring (originally Carl-Erik Gerhard Andersson, also known as Carl Olivebringand Carl-Erik Olivebring, April 20, 1919 – October 8, 2002),[1] was a Swedish baritonesinger.[2][3][4]

Olivebring was born in Hedemora. His mother Judit Andersson (1877–1924) was an employee of the Royal Court of Sweden and he has been named as an extramarital son of King Gustaf VI Adolf[5] having grown up in a religious foster family. Olivebring went to the United States in 1945 where he and Einar Ekberg gained notoriety as a duo in a Christian genre. Later in Sweden he continued his singing career, often working with Göran Stenlund. He made a considerable number of records and toured the country. He belonged to the Swedish Pentecostal Movement and in the USA worked occasionally with Billy Graham's team.[6]

"Below are two photos of Fritzie Little. Below is an email I received from one of her daughters, Stef .

I did not know that Frankie was a Polka band?  I'll bet some of my sisters will get a chuckle out of that!  She was typically Jazz and we thought the only other music she did then was for television commercials, soap ads, etc. back in the 50's and 60's, "Jingle's" she would call them.
The photo attached is my Mother "Fritzie Little" with her band "Roy King's Komi-Kings".  Not quite sure what in the World Komi-Kings meant or was about but Roy is the one on the left.   I believe this was 1952.
Thank you for your assistance, greatly appreciated.  We have found her on eBay.  Advertising fliers that used to be mailed out, for the old Magic Bar South Minneapolis where Roy King's band, and my Mom, performed regularly.  So we do check around from time to time and we all wish we wouldn't have ruined her old 78's... Darn kids anyway!

Thanks again and feel free to use the band photo if you wish.  Immortalize our Mom... that would be nice!  I would have to ask my sisters if they recall Real Information, details, on her music career because I had no idea about Polka records, I just remember Roy King's group."

At the young age of 6, Ernest's Mother died in 1910, their father hired a Norwegian immigrant housekeeper named Molly Rood. Ernest Iverson left the Midwest as a young man.Injured while working in the Texas oil fields in 1925, Ernest turned to Music.By the early 1930s Ernest and his younger brother Clarence had reunited and formed an act as Slim Jim and the Vagabond Kid.During their heyday in the 1930s and 1940s the Iversons not only had a daily radio show but also performed live with their own band. Their half-hour radio broadcasts usually ended with some words of inspiration and a song of faith. Listeners might hear "It is No Secret", "Just a Closer Walk with Thee" or "The Old Rugged Cross".
The brothers were fixtures on Twin Cities radio until Clarence entered the army in 1943. His noontime program was a favorite throughout the 1930s, ‘40s, and ‘50s on several Twin Cities and regional stations, including WDGY, KSTP, WLOL, and KEYD. He also appeared on experimental WDGY telecasts in the 1930s, and hosted the hour-long "Slim Jim's Westerners" on what is now KMSP TV Minneapolis/Saint Paul in the 1950s.Their half-hour radio broadcasts usually ended with some words of inspiration and a song of faith.
